A PROPOSAL

FULL DISCLOSURE: This idea came to me while I was on the toilet. I was missing my friends in other cities & states and wondering about their lives; What's new? How are their jobs? Have they read anything good lately? etc... That combined with my current state of menstruation took my brain on a merry path that ended with rhyming the words "bleeding" and "reading" together. At first I thought it was kind of funny but as I thought more about it I realized how appropriate the phrase (title) "bleeding and reading" is for me and most of the women I know. The two of the topics I find myself regularly talking about with other women are books & vaginas. I mean, what else is there really? Books. Vaginas. The end.

FROM TOILET TO MACBOOK: As I wiped, washed and wrapped up my bathroom adventure I hatched a plan; women from different cities and backgrounds co-authoring a blog. Writing about the books they are reading and sharing the kinds of bloody stories that only women can and creating something of a virtual "red tent".

CONTENT: I hope to develop a compendium of female voices ranging from serious explorations (read: with a touch of feminism ala Ani or Fiona) to lighter and quirkier musings as well as the sharing of hilarious, embarrassing and maybe even slightly tragic personal stories. With writing styles covering prose, haiku, personal accounts and everything in between.

RULES: Write about what you are reading or have read, a time when you were bleeding or both together. Be as honest and as raw as you are comfortable with (the blog will be open to the public). Respect one another and the posting schedule (tbd).*

INVITATION: Will you join me as co-authors? I've sent this link to several women each for a different reason. Maybe it's because I know you well and you were one of those friends I was missing when I hatched this little plan, maybe we used to know each other but have lost touch, maybe we are friends now and aren't states apart, or maybe I barely know you but think that you're quirky or funny or witty or brilliant and will add something unique to the blog. The commitment to be a co-author shouldn't be greater than 1–2 hours a month. Let's try this and see where it goes—it could be cool.

GETTING STARTED: If you are interested message me on FB or email me at t.parente.connors@gmail.com and I will add you to the blog and we can get things going.

xoxo
Tiffany

Please don't be intimidated by the term "post schedule". My thoughts were just to create a little bit of structure to keep things from becoming over-dominated by one topic or voice. It will probably consist of suggested topics (ie favorite book or first period) and an order for author posts. But it won't be so structured that you will feel burdened by rules and unable to be organic and creative. And if it is, we will figure out a way to make it better, together.
